SAF!!!

This is from STOMP which got this from another person's blog. It's so shallow but it sure makes it seem credible. It's the SAF afterall.

Dear all, I’m an army wife and my husband is a SAF regular army officer.

One of the many primary reasons I married my husband is because of his dashing uniform. We were fixed up by someone we knew mutually and had many email conversations over a month before we met. He sent me a picture of him in his no.4 uniform and immediately, I fell in love with the way he looks in it (i didn’t say i fell for him immediately). I felt myself swooning.

When we began dating, he invited me once to a parade in his camp and when I saw him in person in his no.4 uniform, I was sure and told myself I will make this man my husband. The whole get-up made my knees weak. On our wedding, he wore his no.1.

Anyway, I was horrified to find out that SAF was going to change the no. 4 uniform. What was worse is that the new uniform is unspeakably ugly. It looks like pyjamas and the camo print is hideous. The colours are gross too, with a lot of brown, very weird, looks like crap. The colors of the current one are perfect and manly. And the camo print of this current one is perfect too. The cut, lapels, badges, collar, cutting are perfect.

I don’t understand why they would change such a nice and flattering uniform. The current SAF army no.4 is the nicest and smartest and manliest army combat uniform throughout all the armies in the world.

I would like to ask if wives are asked for their opinions before this change was decided? Who decided this? As wives of our regular soldiers, we are in close contact with the uniforms as much as the soldiers are. And it is also a large part of our lives.

I fell for my husband because of the dashing and manly no.4 uniform. Many many other army wives believe that uniform is extremely flattering and sexy.

Can we seek some explanation or redress in some way? :(

Becareful of what you eat

It is important that we are careful of the things we eat. As I spend time playing or more like observing my little nephew Denzel explore his world last sunday, I realised something about kids. They put everything into their mouth. It is the job of an adult to keep a look out of the things he grabs cos it might end up in his mouth the next instant. No one will know how fast or how slow he will put it in. Just have to be prepared.

Same for Christanity. Sometimes we see people backsliding or not doing well, cos of the things they feed on. It may be a wrong doctorine or perhaps they mixed with the wrong crowd. Faith comes by hearing and so does fear. In the multitude of counsellers, there is safety, the opposite is true. Mixing with the wrong people will lead to the "lack of faith" being imparted. A child will not know how to differentiate what can be eaten and what can't. It's is the duty of the adult supervising to help look through. The roles of connect group ICs and CGLs and Pastors serve such a role. Guard what gets fed to the congregation but not over do it else, a child will never know how to feed himself.

At times, I hear ppl telling me wa, this book is great, this song is great, got special revelation. The first thing I will do is to see who the author / song writer is. If the spirit is ok, most of the time, the things will be ok. If not, it's not. It is sad to see adults putting trash into thier mouths and wat's more, consume it. That's when they start to not do well. By then they are no longer adults but are nothing more than a child. We need more adults to start supervising else we are just going to have more children falling sick cos of the wrong stuff they are feeding on. This sickness will then spread and if we do not contain it, it will be an epedemic.

Aviation Outlook

Ah, it's been so long since I blogged. I'm now using my office laptop to blog. quite surprised as I thought it'll be restricted. There's a lot of things that's restricted on this company's laptop due to firewalls and stuff. Cannot download or install applications, so i can't put the post it pad. Haiz.

Anyway, it's been 3 weeks into this new job and I realised that I haven't mention where I'm working. Ha, so i think i'll leave it this way. it's aviation related and it's not hardcore engineering. Which is what I prayed for. I just pray that the prospects will be good. Anyways, the society now looks at life long employability and not life long employment. Ok, since it's aviation related, I'll give my outlook of this sector....

The aviation industry, esp in this region, will see greater growth in the years to come. This is especially so as China and India open up. As businesses grow, the need to travel will increase. Now, all these are all my predictions and i'm blogging this down so that years later I can see if I'm right or not. There will come a time where there will be super sonic passenger planes again. The concord came ahead of its time but the industry will need supersonic planes in the future. It will come back again but probably not so soon. Unless there are major breakthroughs in the aerodynamics or engineering dept, the scene will remain much the same with a constant focus on developing more fuel efficient engines. As most aviation engineers know, if you want to go supersonic, it is impt that you create one that will go very supersonic, like mach 2 or even more. Flying at Mach 1 is the most inefficient way and I think hardly anyone cruises at that speed. It's the law of physics. hee. In asia, there will soon come a greater demand for budget carriers. However, this real boom of the budget airlines will only happen when more people have traveled on a plane at least once. Asians are generally very "face" concious. So, they will not take budget for fear of being laughed at. This will only change if economical situations push them so. It is important for budget airlines to change that image so as not hte appear so cheapskate and at the same time, it's only when ppl start to travel more and know what's the real world like outside and realise that it's ok to be practical, will they then dare to take budget airlines. Put it this way, after you've traveled a few times on a legacy carrier, you will then realise that it is actually quite ok to travel on budget airlines since you've tasted that experience already. Situation in EU is different from Asia and that's why airlines like Ryanair are doing so well. The Asian market can grow and will grow to be like EU's but the question is when. Until that day, our very own SIA will still enjoy the huge profits that they are taking now. However, as the pressure continues to rise with fuel pricing getting higher and higher, there will be widespread consolidation in this industry. That is when the men are seperated from the boys and I think SIA will grow stronger as the weaker competition will be eliminated. However, in the long run, they will have to change their strategy as the Asian market will turn to budget for its practicality and once the budget airlines are able to shed the cheapskate image, perhaps by having better seats or even more high class planes, which airasia X is going to do, they will surely make legacy airlines work harder for their pay cheque. SIA's job for now, will be to continue to capture the market share and by market I mean those who will and always travel with legacy carriers. As the consolidation happens, SIA must remain at the top. This is the real test. If she is able to emerge as the winner, she will survive as there will still be a group of people who will take legacy rather than budget. The SAF will gladly spent that money as they travel for example. Basically, rich people or people who do not know how to better manage finances will always be around to keep the demand for legacy going.

www.deathclock.com

The above is the url to a website that calculate when will you die. For me, it is 2072. Which means i'll live till 88, just before my 89th birthday. How to make everyday count? Have you ever thought about that?

Movies Recently

Recently, I've been watching some movies with Huiqin. One of which is Red Cliff. I strongly recomend that you do not watch it unless you love watching advertisements of movies. In my opinion, it is just a very long introduction ot the next film, the part 2. The huge disappointment is when they showed the 'to be continued' subtitle when they were abt to embark on the biggest battle. What a teaser. It's red cliff but the battle of red cliff was not shown.

Then it was dark knight, where the joker really gave it all.He gave his life for this show literally. Nice plot but quite confusing at times. How can he do so many things with so little time???

And there's Bank Job. Nice plot and I feel that it really deserves all the awards it won. Suppose to be based on a true story. Nice.

Interview Guru

Yes, I am the interview Guru. Not Love Guru, though I would love to watch that show, but an interview Guru. I have counted and I realised that it has been 3 months since I had my last exam. Technically, I've just graduated cos the commencement was in July. But it's been 3 months since I had my last acedamic work over at NUS. To add oil to fire, I've been through no less than 15 interviews so far, including 2nd rounds. That worked out to be 1 per week on the average. Well, I am happy to say that I have found a job and will be starting soon. As for the company and designation, I'll leave that to another time.

I can officially declare myself an interview guru cos of my experience in interviews, as an interviewee of cos. At times, when I see the interviewer struggling to ask quesions, I really want to help them and tell them that you're suppose to ask this and i am suppose to tell you this.. ha. Interviews are no fun. Perhaps it's just a conspiracy amongst all the companies to make interview process so irritating so as to lower the turnover rate. Preparin for interviews is hard work...

First you must set up your resume and cover letter and then find out which are the companies recruiting and then do research on that company and know what are the likely questions that would be asked during interviews. Homework needs to be done. having said this, it is of cos based on the fact that you know what are the job types you really want. There are many catogories... The very interested and the 'if you offer me I can also take' category... You must also know that some resumes sent yield no response. If you're sucessful, then it's the trip down to the company itself and you'll have to find out how to get there. For the first few interviews, you'll be very careful with your dressing, making sure you're neat and tidy, hair is ok, smells good, look fresh, good breath etc.. After like 8 rounds, you kind of relax the standard. By the 15th interview, you really want to wear slippers and go. I must say that disappointed is naturally the feeling at that time. But as Aunty Shirley always says, God is in control and His ways are higher. So, I keep on pressing on.

Reaching the place, there are forms to fill up. All the forms look the same but every company has their own format. Some ask you to place your latest school first, some earliest school first, some has the school name then the qualification obtained, some it's the other way round. Some ask for your family details, some not so detailed. Some need photo some dun. Some need u to write an essay abt yourself, some dun. Anyway, I think I have seen about all sorts of forms there can be...

They will then all ask you to describe yourself. Some interviewers will just do the talking and then expect you to understand all, while some will want you to do the talking. Some are fierce and some are very friendly. It doesn't make a difference. Cos at the end, it's the job that you're after.

When you're going for sales interviews, make sure u use words like 'driven, never give up, never say die, never give up, excited all the time, service oriented, positive mentality, optimistic'. These are basically words that you would want to describe the 'disillutioned, unrealistic, just wishing to make it big one day, willing to do anything just to suck up' you.

If you're going for engineering jobs, tell them you are 'systematic, logical, process oriented, steady, willing to work shift work'. Use them to cover up your 'square packness, lack of creativity, inability to see breakthroughs, inability to think out of the box, and no life other than work'personality.

*Disclaimer* I have nothing against these jobs but just that all interviews are but just a show. You're suppose to act according to the needs of the company just to get in first. Let's face it, noone show their true colours during an interview. All will find their shortcomings and project their best image.

To sum them all up, some interviews give you false hope and some give you false disappointment. Some make you think you made it, some make you think you fail. Some tell you they reject you just to select you later. Some tell you they select you but just to reject you later. Some jobs sound glamourous but when you see for yourself, you'll be shocked. There is no perfect job in this world, every job has it's down side. that is of cos assuming you 're not born with a silver spoon. there are people whose job is only to enjoy life. that's another story.

Some people asked me y am i not a pilot? Why didn't I go for that since my passion is in aviation and I have a pilot's license. Well, to answer that, I must say that I did try for that position with SIA. Did I pass the interviews? Yes I did.. Ha, but I shall not go into further details as it is pretty sensitive. But then some stuff happened and then again I find a solution to the barrier of which I think I will be about 70% successful in overcoming it. Anyway, I chose not to venture further due to certain reasons. 1. What's going to happen to W302? 2. What's going to happen to my family and loved ones? 3. there are always pros and cons to every job. the cool off period really helped me to evaluate that career option and see if it fits me. I must confess something that the moment I decided to give that up, I was able to step into love with Huiqin again. Yea, we're in love but I always had some reservations as I didn't want my departing in the future due to the nature of work to be a big blow to her. it's like not daring to love someone cos you know that you have limited time. You dun want to build it up just to see it falling down. Well, after making the decision, I dared to love 100%. That's one major and immediate difference. Then I also did a project on this topic in uni before. In the conclusion, it mentioned that if you're after money alone, then pilot is not the right job, cos it no longer draws the high income as maybe 30 years ago. Many other jos can pay well too. One thing good abt being a pilot is that u get to travel. However, i've realised that it is not where u go but who u go with that is the most impt. Also, I want to watch my kids grow up. Looking at denzel, I know that he is not close to me cos I only see him for that few hours a week. I dun want my son to grow up in that state. Having thought about all, the most important factor was that I cannot find an answer to a question I have been searching for an answer for so long. Why is it that most pilot's son, do not want to be a pilot themselves when they grow up???

With that, i'll leave the discussion on pilot.Dun get me wrong, being a pilot is good, working for SIA is just awesome as it's a great company. However, given my personality and kuan and persona, it may not be a good fit. There are too many commitments that will keep me grounded. Ha, maybe all these will all change one day. I'll never know.

So that's the stuff about interviews. I'm glad that it's all over. Wise Old Mother Shaun told me recently that I will be so glad once these interviews are over. She is indeed right. She is indeed knowlegable and not only she gives good advice to me but to Huiqin as well, go check out her blog and she mentioned shaun there too. Hmmmm, seems like being a mother has indeed made you older (wiser)......

Stop Piracy

A: Come, let's set up a research company. We will do research and since research is search and search, no one can judge if we produce good results or not. Muahaha. Isn't it a brillant idea?
B: But who will fund it?
A: The public of course!

Years later...

B: Boss, it's been years already and still we have produced nothing significant. I'm afraid we have to show something to the public.
A: Hmmmm... If that's the case, let's show them our latest invention. Our Pixellated curtain. It looks just like the jungle and when the birds land near the window, they will feel at ease.
B: Wow, awesome! But i thought our American brothers are already using them now?
A: Ya, so?
B: Won't it be like copying wholesale? Shouldn't we like change a little bit?
A: What copy? Don ever use that word. Makes us look bad. It is using something that has been proven already.
B: I know, but shouldn't we like modify it a bit? Just taking it totally isn't it piracy?
A: Hey, watch what you are saying! What piracy? I am an anti-piracy person. Piracy is like you take a video camera and go into the cinema and record illegally. Then you produce it, it is called piracy. But if you see a Japanese advertisement with a kid drawing jig-saw puzzle and you think it's a good idea and you produce your own one, it is perfectly ok.
B: But we are still producing the same curtain designs. Where is our input?
A: See, the americans do not have the "Made in Singapore" label. If we add that in, that will be our input. Not piracy anymore. Understand? Just go and do it...
