Sanjay

It was a usual morning and like all other training day mornings, the club opened early as Singaporeans slowly make their way across the border.

It's the Chinese New Year period and most of the Chinese will be busy doing visitations. It is a good time to fly thought Sanjay. With a recent trip to WMKM (Malacca)with an instructor, Sanjay was all eager to fly there on his own. After filing the flight plan, with the fuel checked and all that,he was ready to go..

After taking off from WMKJ (Senai), he was heading towards the west to join the coastal route and then head up north to WMKM. After a few minutes into the flight, he wanted to return to WMKJ and radioed WMKJ's ATC... For one reason or another, he ended up being entangled at the tree top of Gunung Pulai. The plane was down and he broke his right tigh.

This is a rough account that I pictured must have happened on that faithful day.. This incident made me recall my experience at Elite Flying Club.

I am a holder of PPL at Elite Flying Club. I joined in 2006 and have been active until recently when I started work. It's a great club that offers PPL courses that is very popular with Singaporeans who find it expensive to learn how to fly in Singapore. It was featured in the straits times before as well as a "thing you can do" for leisure. This club helped me earn my wings and I also managed to successfully propose to huiqin on board one of their aircrafts. I proposed onboard 9M-ANA.. 9M is the registration that is unique to the country that a plane is registered at. For Singapore planes, it's 9V. Thus, if you look closely at SIA's planes, they have a "9V" printed somewhere on it's body (unless the plane's on lease like the Concord)

From what I know, Elite has 2 Cessna 152 and the one that Sanjay was in was 9M-ANA. That means that ANA has most probably totalled.

I will most probably not see ANA again.. the plane that I had gotten my wings in, the plane that I did my first solo. The plane that I proposed in and all that.. So sad. Good bye ANA and speedy recovery Sanjay. It's time you buy another C-152 to replace our dear ANA...

Mickey Puzzle

This is the jig saw puzzle that I mentioned in my previous post. This is the real thing and I took this photo after approx 7 manhours (2 person for 3.5 hrs). We started at about 8pm and at around 11pm plus, we decided to call it a day. Was too excited and so didn't take a photo right from the very start... So the 1st image was our progress as of 7 manhours into the project.

This was after another 2 man hours. We did it in an hour on one of the nights before the Z monster caught up with us... Progress after approx 9 manhours.

Another view of it... as you can see some parts of the borders were in.

Borders were completed. Now this is a unique case where we started with the centre first and not the borders... It's all white, so no point starting on the borders. When we placed the borders, we did the trial and error method which was quite time consuming. Thus, this was after 11 manhours...

Now, it's completed after all the small gaps were filled. it's also done by trial and error... This was really tough and it took about 3 manhours to try each piece out.. Finally, the puzzle was done after approx 14 manhours.. This is a 1000 piece puzzle.

New Blog

I have just set up a new blog. Probably only 2 persons will ever know this blog..

After dinner, walked about the town

I dunno why I kept eating..

Video from the trip

This is using an Ixus function where an image is taken every 1 second and the images are played one after another as per normal video.. Effects are quite fun to play ard with. Set the camera on a tripod and took a sunset. However, the video is too big and cannot be posted here.. It's superb.

Great Ocean Road Trip (Part 2)

From the previous post, we left the nature park and went to the most expensive accom for this trip...
It has everything. Even a Jacuzzi.

With complimentary Chocolates...

And Wine...

Lunch at this German town... Hanhdorf, which is also Australia's oldest German town.

Hanhdorf

Unmanned orange stall.. Just put the money there and be honest.

The Car we drove about in.. SUV. Nissan. X-trail.

Some Hay beside the roads.

Guess who we saw on TV there?

THe next morning, visited some wine places.. They call it a cellar.

Red Rooster is like KFC just that it's grilled, not fried. Why Singapore dun have???

A new blog

I'm thinking of setting up a new blog. Most likely it'll be launched in the next few weeks. To add to that mystery, I will not reveal the blog address.. Hmmm.. or maybe I should. Or should I allow only certain readers to read? Maybe I should just keep it a secret.

I kind of slip into a mood where young kids will post such entries and all the friends will go... "huh.. let me know the address.. let me know the address..." And there'll more more hustling and tustling before finally revealing it. But actually from the start already want many others to know.

But Kenneth Teo is diff. This blog is seriously going to be private. It'll be a blog bet Qin and I.

Foreigners in SG

It's back to this problem once again.. Foreigners in SG. Last night, on my way back home, I saw this Indian/Bangla worker just throwing a bottle of ABC stout after finishing it on the grass patch. I was just a few steps behind him. I of course didn't want to confront him as firstly, he may be drunk, secondly, if i really fight with him, I'll dirty my hands. So, just walk off and wait for the bangla cleaner to pick it up next morning before some other drunk bangla uses it as a weapon in one of their fights.

On the way to work on the MRT, I was seating down and I fell asleep. At my destination, I woke up to see a very dusty construction worker sitting beside me and he's sleeping too. I got off and realised that my nice clean working pants was stained by his sandy pants. From the looks of it, it must have been unwashed for 3 days at least. Cos when I was in the army, it took me about 5 days to reach that state of dirtiness. Goodness, I had a hard time cleaning it up before appearing in office that morning. Yet again, another social problem that foreigners bring to Singapore. This time round, it's a Chinaman. Haiz.

With this, I wondered... Instead of complaining, what kind of solution can I think of to resolve this problem.....

Walaaa.. I got it. Actually PAP is really smart. I mean the Singapore government is really number 1. It's simple. See, last time we use to have all those clean and green campaign but now, no more. Why? It's pointless. These foreigners will not change. Firstly, they will come and go. Secondly, they may not be keen to learn anyway. So gone are the days where Singapore prides herself as the cleanest green city. People just throw beer bottles anywhere. I've seen foreigners peeing in public in Jurong area too. Actually, the cost of a Bangla may not be that cheap after all, cos I reckon for every 10 banglas employed, you'll need to hire a cleaner to clean their shit (hopefully not literally). If a bangla cost 1000 a month, it's actually 1,100 a month if you factor in the cleaner. That is assuming the cleaner is a Bangla too, what if he's more expensive? So there are other cost that employers didn't factor in. And also the drop in Singapore's reputation leading to declining tourism? The lost in revenue for that? Already the Tourism industry in Singapore is not doing as well as before.

So what is the solution? We know that Singapore cannot survive without foreigners.. The solution I thought of is.... to.... promote ITE! We make it glamourous so that more Singaporeans will take on manual jobs in the future and the reliance on foreigners workers will fall. That solves it... With more people taking lower jobs, Singapore might still make it in 10-20 years to come. And that is precisely what the Sg Govt is doing. Took at how well the ITEs are marketted. Even for other CMI institutions, it's the same as well.. That's he way man. I use think it's a waste of time and resources to market so well just to boost their ego and keep these street kids out of trouble and untimately save on the resources needed to build boy homes and jailhouses. But I was too small minded. Didn't see the bigger picture. This is the bigger picture...

Stomp

Just read this article in Stomp.sg.

It's about Malays learning the Chinese Traditional Lion Dance.

http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singaporeseen/viewContent.jsp?id=50015

Then there was this comment by merrycherry:
"looks more like the malays are at it again for some quick fast money as usual. Trust me, they're just in it for the good fast money. Seems like this race only knows how to smoke, litter, drive motorbikes, go ITE, eat KFC or work in menial positions in F&B line.
I'm so gonna get it from others here but honestly, you know what im saying is the truth. "

And as you can guess it, more comments came pouring in.

"Merrycherry, I am pretty confident your brain's located at your butt. Obviously you don't have Malay friends. Please do yourself a favour and kill yourself. The world can do without people like you"

" agree to a certain extent with the chink by the username of 'merrycherry'. These motorbike guys are so annoying it gets on my nerves. "

Stomp_Kotek said:
"Yeah...i totally disagree with the racist comments that you guys have posted. I have analyse the situation & below are some of possible reasons i can think of:
1)They are attracted to the uniform because its green
2)Hala lion - to venture into malay market, no longer chinese tradition
3)Love the beat of the drum as it goes 'bomb bomb bomb'
3) "

and lots more comments.

Any foreigner who read stomp is going to have a very wrong impression of Singapore....

Night Cycling

I know that this should be filled with pictures. However, it's night cycling, so what photos to take? Just a brief sumary and my thoughts on this event.

Organised my some folks in W302. It was meant to be a leisure ride but it soon turned into a tough and grueling journey to "faraway land"

We started at Macs at East coast and we planned to celebrate Tammy's birthday there too as she was unable to come to S1. So the people there were Ruix, Nic, YX, Ci zhuan, Lester, Annabelle, Rach, Reid, Tammy, Son, Qin and I. We celebrated Tammy's birthday just outside the bicycle shop and after some waiting Yuans Xing arrived. Malcolm had wanted to come but we advised him not to as malcolm will be late after his wedding dinner. Well, that was very sound advice indeed as noone expected that the simple night cycling would turn out to be a 6-hour battle, hanging on for dear life...

After departing the bicycle shop at about 10.45pm, the aim was to head towards changi village and then tour around the area. Since my camp was near by, I though we could visit some ofthe interesting landmarks there. After cycling for a half an hour, I felt something up my butt.. The seat had been much harder than I expected and my butt was beginning to hurt. However, it's all still comfortable. But somehow I knew that it's going to be a rough ride down the road....

After stopping at bedok jetty, we continued and after some navigation, we finally reached the runway. Our spirits were still high then and felt that all things are possible. I used to think who would be so crazy to cycle here when I drove down the raod beside the runway, but who knows, I'm here today, cycling... It was indeed tough as the road was endless. It was like crossing the desert. Halfway, my chains came apart and had to stop. Thank God for ci zhuan who placed them back... Then Ruix's waterbag burst and we had an emergency as all the contents in his bag was wet. Still nothing could stop us. Finally, we arrived Changi village at about 1 plus 2am... Shared a Nasi lemak with Qin and after some ball kicking and frisbee throwing, and of course ah kua watching, we left and went to the old changi hospital. I was leading the pack as I was familiar with the area. Then we saw lights from the hospital... Wow.. interesting. INDEED. There were visitors and they were all exploring the area with torchlights and all. So that's all the ghost we saw. Then we went to have a look at Hendon camp. For Honour and Glory.. Ka Pui. Then we continued on..

After that, with bleeding butts, we went back to east coast. It's such a long journey.. Along the way, we met with more adventure with Son's bike's chain giving way..

Finally, all sweaty and tired and sleepy, we completed the last leg of the race..

Then it was a long journey back to Jurong. I drove in Rach's vehicle...

Now, my butt is still sore and my tighs are both filled with Lactic acid.. they are not pain from muscular ache, just too much acid. Something that I've never felt before even during NS days. But no, I didn't have any mega cramps during that 6 hours.

Vision

The power of visualization we all heard of this esp in the 4th dimension by Dr David Cho.

So what's the vision for 2009. I know that everyone's saying life's gonna get tough as the economy goes down.. Well, nothing can be worse with the newspapers headlines on the 1st day of the year telling everyone to brace up for a rough road ahead. What i believe is that I have a God who is bigger than any recession. Someone must survive this recession, why can't it be me? Someone will have to prosper in times like these, why can't it be me?

In 2009, there are a few things that so desperately need to change. First, it's the CG. Beloved W302. It's gonna go thru some overhaul. I'm given a quarter. Time's tight but well, in every company, if the CEO does not know what to do, the company is as good as dead. The plans must be rolled out soon, if not, yesterday. Probably I should get everything out in my goal card. But, nvm, I'll write here first. And if you are from W302 and are reading this, this concerns you...

Ministry - massive overhaul. CGic run the show for ministries. Spear head them. CGM wise, short and sweet CGMs. Atmosphere: one where people are happy and new friends are welcomed. Not forced, not with fake smiles but genuine warmth.People would want to come back again and again. People will be teachable and yet, brave and bold at the same time. People who are not bold, will never ever get anything done in his/her life. By asking people to be bold and brave and make a stand, we're actually helping people to be more "human" I have never seen a big CEO who has wishy-washy personality. If not D, how to make it in life? However, most, if not all, big bosses know one thing: while they are strong and mighty to many others, there is a channel that they bow down to. There is one authority that is greater and that is which they must revere. This will be the immediate plans for W302. We're in the business of meeting needs, touching lives. Commitment is the basis for anything to be built. Happiness and satisfaction is what that is required for continuous commitment. Leave no man behind is the moto for 2009.

Marriage - All set for the big day. Sep 09 seems quite far away but it sure is not. There's so many things to do and to settle. At this point in time, you'll be glad you're in church as your CGL will guide you and assist you.. but wait, who's my CGL? Or should I get Huiqin's CGL to help.

Work - Work wise, things are uncertain. As my unit faces challenges after challenges. Things are not smooth sailing but since when are things suppose to be smooth sailing? There are fires to fight and I can only pray for the wisdom of God to be upon me as I attend meetings and engage in discussions. Now's still learning stage, but it'll end soon when I will be given more responsibilities.

Finances - This year is probably the toughest that's going to be. I'm standing on my own and the capital outlay for marriage is not small. House, loans, reno, dinner, church wedding, etc etc etc.. salary wise, cannot demand for more as the market is not ideal and it's definately not an employee's market now..

On Health - I've decided that talk is cheap. Action speaks louder...

Ok, this is roughly it. I'll transfer all these stuff to the SMARTER format and have a more thorough planning once again.

Time to go off.

New Year, New Vision

Well, the new skin marks the start of a new year. I was planning to get all things sorted out and do much planning for the new year as such I didn't plan for any countdown parties. In the end, I was sound asleep when the clock hit 12. I heard some people shouting but I was too tired and was totally knocked out. That's countdown 2009 for me this year...

Few hours before that, I was working in office due to some last minute changes and this concerns operations and I've got to stay back to settle that. Thank God I didn't stay for too long. Huiqin and i have started on a new Mickey Mouse Jig Saw puzzle. This one is one which we felt will be the hardest as the background has lots and lots of white...

This is the one, 1000 pcs.. Bought some time back but only got time and determination to start now.. I think we are doing pretty well on the time for this one. I'll update on the progress soon... As of now, it's about 80% done. we have spent about 7manhours on it. Official start time was last night 2030hrs.

Yesterday, I also shifted my home desk top and got the internet connection set up once again. not forgetting that the search for the right house continues. Ring wise, also got some options. Met the parents too and get the T&Cs sorted out.. Whats next what's next???

Back to puzzles, our next target is this :

This time it's 2000 pcs. We've bought it already. Once this existing project is completed, we'll roll out the next one. I wonder which one looks better....?
